Community Education

Are you involved with a Community Group?

Would you like assistance with developing courses or training for your members?

What is Community Education?

The Community Education Programme is one of a suite of adult education programmes provided by Co. Wicklow VEC.  It supports community groups to develop learning activities that respond to the needs of their members and their communities.

Developing relevant educational programmes may involve the Community Education facilitator working with groups to identify needs, to source funding and to plan and evaluate projects.

The overall aim of the Community Education Programme is to support initiatives that tackle social exclusion and rural isolation.

The Community Education Programme is now accepting applications for support from Community Groups for Term 3 2010.

How we can help

Advice & Support:  The Community Education Facilitator can advise on courses, accreditation, finding tutors etc.

Course Development:  If you wish to develop your own course, the Community Education Facilitator will work with you providing support and technical assistance.

Funding:  Groups can apply for funding for education programmes and courses. Generally, the Community Education Programme funds tutor costs.  The Community Education facilitator can also advise on other sources of funding.

Back to Education Initiative:  The Community Education Service offers assistance to groups to apply for BTEI funding, or we can apply on your behalf.

Groups we have worked with include:
  • Active Retirement Groups
  • Womens' / Mens' Groups
  • Disability Organisations
  • Family Resource Centres
  • Traveller Organisations
  • Community Addiction Teams
Examples of the type of courses:
  • Creativity & Crafts
  • Personal and Career Development
  • E-Cert and ECDL
  • Community Development
  • Photography
  • Cookery
  • Community Arts

Some courses offer FETAC accreditation, as appropriate to the group’s needs.  New courses can be developed in consultation with groups.
