INFORMATION FOR PARENTS ON APPLYING FOR POST-PRIMARY SCHOOL TRANSPORT

Transport forms are obtained from Post-Primary School to be attended, Department of Education website or Co. Wicklow V.E.C.head office

Each form must be read carefully, fully completed and signed by parent/guardian and then signed by Post-Primary School Principal.

If you are unsure about the Catchment Area you live in, please ask.

Completed forms can be returned to the School, who will forward them to:

Co. Wicklow V.E.C., P.O. Box 15, Wentworth Place, Wicklow.

Phone: 0404 60500, Email headoffice@wicklowvec.ie
Closing date for receipt of applications by schools is Friday 19th March 2010. Deadlines will be strictly enforced: Students whose applications or payments to Bus Eireann are received late are not guaranteed any transport facilities.

Applications will be assessed by Co. Wicklow V.E.C. in line with the Post Primary School Transport Scheme, as set down by Department of Education & Science:

(i) Not all students are eligible for transport.

(ii)Some applicants are deemed to be 'Catchment Boundary Pupils and the important implications of such status should be noted ** (see point 2 - 'Concessionary Transport' from Post Prinary School Transport Scheme, attached to the form).

(iii) Co. Wicklow V.E.C. will forward eligible applications to Bus Eireann.

(iv) Applicants will then receive a bill/invoice from Bus Eireann for the annual amount due for each student wishing to use school transport (annual fees for school year 2010/2011 re €300 per student, a maximum family payment of €650 or free if parents submit their current medical card to Bus Eireann).

(v) Payment or Parent’s Current Medical Card should be sent directly to Bus Eireann. Bus Eireann will then issue tickets directly to applicants.

(vi) Parents may appeal decisions to the Department of Education Independent Appeals Board, if they feel the terms of the scheme have not been fairly applied to their application.
