The role of the Community Education Facilitator (CEF) is to support community groups to develop learning activities that respond to the needs of their members and to the needs of the communities in which they are located.
Developing relevant educational programmes may involved the CEF working with groups to identify needs, to source funding, to plan and evaluate projects.
The overall aim of the Community Education Programme is to support initiatives that tackle social exclusion, disability and rural isolation.
The following types of groups are working currently with the Community Education Programme: Active Retirement Groups, Community Arts groups, Advocacy groups for people with disabilities, Ethnic Minority groups, Women’s groups.
In addition, the Community Education Programme works in partnerships with other agencies such as: The Health Service Executive, NLN (National Learning Network), ReHabcare, Community Development Projects (Family Resource Centres, Travellers Development Group), School Liaison Programme, School Completion Programme, Community Addiction Teams.
